Arugam Bay
Sri Lanka's best-known east-coast surf town
Arugam Bay is a small, laid-back surf town on Sri Lanka's east coast, built around a long, forgiving right-hand point break that draws surfers of every level. It's also our home base — the starting point for most of our transfers.
Outside the water, the town has a compact, walkable centre with guesthouses, cafes and board rental shops, and quick access to Kumana National Park and the quieter beaches at Pottuvil and Panama.

Best time to go
The east coast season runs opposite to the west and south coast, typically firing from April/May through September — the reverse of when Unawatuna, Galle or Mirissa are at their best. Conditions vary year to year, so treat this as a general pattern rather than a guarantee.
Getting there
Most travelers arrive via a private transfer from Colombo Airport, a journey that can vary in length depending on traffic, road conditions and stops. Onward transfers are available toward Ella, Kandy, Mirissa and the south coast.

Options range from simple beachfront guesthouses to boutique surf camps, mostly within easy walking distance of the point.
