A laid-back surf town with a well-known reef break
Ahangama has grown into one of the south coast's favourite surf towns, centred around Kabalana Beach and its well-known point/reef break. The vibe is more laid-back and less crowded than Weligama just down the coast, with a growing cafe and co-working scene.
It sits close enough to Weligama and Galle for an easy day trip in either direction.

Best time to go
Best surf conditions are typically from around November to April, in line with the rest of the south/west coast season — outside that window, expect more rain and less consistent swell.

Reachable by private transfer from Arugam Bay or Colombo Airport, or as a short onward hop from Galle or Weligama.

A mix of surf camps, guesthouses and a growing number of boutique stays, mostly clustered close to Kabalana Beach.
